ArpuPlus premieres new horror film "Ammar" at Cairo International Film Festival
ArpuPlus, a company specializing in providing value-added services for mobile communications in the Middle East and emerging markets, successfully premiered the new horror film, 'Ammar,' at the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival. The film is the first ever production of the company's video-on-demand platform, 'Shofha' and was selected to be part of the midnight shows to be previewed during the run of the festival.
The movie, which was directed by Mahmoud Kamel under a script written by Ahmad Al-Dahan and Haitham Al-Dahan, revolves around a family that makes the unfortunate move of coming to Al Gharib Palace. 'Ammar' stars Sherif Salama and Iman Al-Assi as the unlucky couple that is haunted by the terrifying world full of ancient crimes that occurred between its walls, or the ill-fated walls were behind those crimes.
According to ArpuPlus senior officials, 'Ammar,' which was produced in cooperation with Nilewood, witnessed a large turnout during the festival. The film was screened to a general audience with tickets being sold out the day before the premiere. Present during the film's screening were artists Sherif Salama, Iman Al-Asi, Rania Mansour, Tariq Sabry, Nidal Al-Shafei, Enji Al-Muqaddam, Dalia Mustafa, Manal Salama, Bushra, Tamer Habib, Elham Shaheen and Amir Shaheen.
Fadi Doss, Commercial Director, ArpuPlus, expressed happiness over the turnout of Shofha's first film production. The director stressed on the company's keenness towards repeating the experience in the future, saying that the film was widely received and accepted. He added that the decision to screen the film during the festival shows the success of the team in presenting a movie with a high degree of professionalism and distinction.
"The Shofha streaming platform has more than 1.5 million subscribers. We have seen a dramatic increase in user interaction and viewership during the last few months. We are constantly working to enter regular updates on the content of the platform to ensure that the content is constantly renovated, with a focus on classifying and organizing this content to provide an easier navigating process. We are also scheduled to launch a Smart TV app soon, which will help enhance the entertainment experience by enabling users to enjoy content on larger screens," concluded Doss.
Launched in 2016, the Shofha streaming platform was created to provide users with a unique movie-streaming experience. The platform's library, which is currently available in 13 countries in the MENA region, contains a variety of content consisting of about 300,000 minutes of Arab films, series and important plays that are well known by the Arab audience.
