Restoring Damietta to its former glory as global leader in furniture production
On Tuesday the 3rd of December President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and a number of senior officials attended the inauguration of 10 projects in Damietta as part of the nations’ ongoing efforts to rebuild its economy, create new jobs and enhance its export capacities.
In His opening word President SIsi reassured Egyptians that there are new opportunities for the expansion of key industries. “The first phase of new cities encompassing 14 cities is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020. The Furniture City in in Damietta will be the rebirth of the quality products the area has been internationally famous for. I dream that the city regains its former position as a key global exporter of quality driven Egyptian made furniture,” President Sisi said.
In attendance was the Chairman of Damietta Furniture City Co. Osama Saleh who said that Egypt’s furniture exports have now reached $360 million and that number is forecasted to reach a record $2 billion when the city starts full operations, estimating the creation of 100,000 direct and indirect jobs. In the same gathering Chairman Saleh announced that the company’s capital is LE5 billion and that the cost of Damietta Furniture City’s construction has reached LE3.1 billion.
