Climate Neutrality Dialogue Breaks the Silence on Egypt’s True Vulnerabilities to Climate Change

طباعة

Over 200 delegates and distinguished speakers joined the “Global Trade Matters International Dialogue on Climate Neutrality - Vision 2050” which was held in Cairo last Monday the 25th of November.

The impressive lineup of speakers included the Ambassadors of Ireland, Denmark, New Zealand, Singapore and Brazil and was attended by the Ambassadors of Mexico, Chile and Afghanistan in addition to representatives from the private sector and civil society.

“While Egypt faces its own set of challenges due to climate change, every country represented at this International Dialogue on Climate Neutrality understand their own vulnerabilities to an ever changing global environment”, said Ashraf Mohamed Naguib, Chief Executive Officer at Global Trade Matters. “Hence it is imperative that we all work together hand in hand to take the necessary actions to reduce the role of our societies in impacting the planets fragile and evolving eco-system” he added.

The International Dialogue included four main sessions addressing an “International Perspective on Climate Neutrality, the “Role of the Private Sector in Climate Neutrality”, the “Role of International Cooperation in Climate Neutrality” and “Building new Climate Neutral Communities”.

TheDialogue was joined by students from grades 7 - 8 - 9 from the Kipling School, High School Juniors and Seniors from the Victoria International College, and undergraduate students from the 6th of October University.

“I saw so many amazing speakers and organizations represented at this event, but I was truly impressed by the efforts of the students from the Kipling School. Their presentation in the morning was perfectly organized and offered new ideas and solutions for carbon foot print reduction in their school”, said Mr. Ahmed Abbas, one of the many attending delegates at the event.

Two other very impactful presentations were shared during the day, one addressing the role of Think Tanks in climate Action, presented by Synerjies Think Tank and the other offering a Comparative Analysis on Climate Action and Mitigation, presented by 6th of October University Research Students.

“This is a world class event with world class speakers and world class organizations addressing a global issue at a very imperative time” said Mr. Moustafa Waly, former head of the Egyptian Federation of Industries and one of the attending delegates.

“Synerjies was honored to be part of this brilliantly orchestrated gathering of thought leaders and we are currently working closely with Global Trade Matters to produce a comprehensive “Post Dialogue Report” covering the ideas, recommendations and proposed actions resulting from this informative platform of thought exchange” said Mr. Khaled El Sayed, Co-Founder and CEO of the Dubai based Synerjies Think Tank.

In 2020, Global Trade Matters plans to hold the “International Climate Neutrality Summit” continuing this important and much needed interaction between key stake holders from government, private sector, international organizations and academia working towards a truly carbon free global community.

“This is only the first of many more Dialogues we intend to host in 2020 leading up to the International Climate Neutrality Summit to be held in the second quarter of next year. We believe that this has to be a sustainable, growing and ongoing discussion positioned to be an effective and influencing platform for global change” said Ms. Nancy Maghrabi, Chairperson at Global Trade Matters.
