Ambassador of Ireland to Join the International Dialogue on Climate Neutrality in Cairo in November
His Excellency Sean O Regan Ambassador of Ireland to Egypt has confirmed his participation at the “Global Trade Matters International Dialogue on Climate Neutrality – Vision 2050” which will be held on November 25th 2019in Cairo.
The one day gathering will bring together thought leaders, academics, international experts, senior diplomats, senior business executives and key government representatives to engage in an open dialogue on the importance of Climate Neutrality and how key stakeholders can work together towards Vision 2050
Earlier this year the Government of Ireland outlined a highly ambitious plan to cut Irish carbon emissions on a sustained basis up to 2030, and will put the country on the right trajectory to meet net zero emissions by 2050.
The plan includes major policy shifts to enable a rapid decarbonisation of the State within 12 years, including targets for putting 1 million electric vehicles on Irish roads; retrofitting of 500,000 homes and achieving 70 per cent renewable energy in power generation.
Ireland has played a central role in the process to reach a consensus on the Sustainable Development Goals demanding a global response to combat climate change and its impacts by 2030. Only ten years away for the target year, the impact of climate change is now threatening to undermine all efforts towards achieving the SDGs,especially since it intensifies inequality and disproportionately affects those least prepared to respond.
In 2019 government lunched A Better World, Ireland’s new policy for international development which provides the framework for Ireland’s expanding development cooperation program, in line with the Government’s commitment to reaching the UN target of allocating 0.7% of the country’s GNI to official development assistance by 2030. It outlines Ireland’s vision of a more equal, peaceful and sustainable world.
“It is always such a pleasure to hear Ambassador O Regan speak and we are honored with his confirmation to join the “Global Trade Matters International Dialogue on Climate Neutrality – Vision 2050” this coming November in Cairo. Ireland is certainly a unique country and strong investment and trading partner to Egypt. Additionally they are a key global partner and leader in combating climate change.” Said Ashraf Naguib, Chief Executive Officer at “Global Trade Matters” Egypt’s leading Private Sector Think Tank.
