Cairo prepares to host the “Global Trade Matters Dialogue on Climate Neutrality – Vision 2050” which will be held in November 2019.
This unique one day gathering will bring together thought leaders, academics, international experts, senior diplomats, senior business executives and key government representatives to engage in an open dialogue on the importance of Climate Neutrality and how key stakeholder can work together towards Vision 2050.
Climate Neutrality, or having a net zero carbon footprint, refers to achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions by balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal (often through carbon offsetting) or simply eliminating carbon emissions altogether (the transition to a "post-carbon economy").
Egypt is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, with impacts ranging from water shortages and drought to reduced crop yield, increased desertification, rising sea levels, increasing population and losses in resources.
Hence and in accordance with “Decisions 1/CP.19 and 1/CP.20”, Egypt submitted its report on the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) towards achieving the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and has accordingly developed the "Sustainable Development Strategy; Egypt's Vision 2030" which serves as a roadmap for the country to achieve its desired sustainable development goals during the next 10 years.
At the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) in December 2015, 195 countries adopted the first-ever universal, legally binding global climate deal which sets out a global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.
Adopting countries have been since cooperating on enhancing societies' ability to deal with the impacts of climate change; provide continued and enhanced international support for adaptation to developing countries, while recognizing the role of non-Party stakeholders in addressing climate change, including cities, other subnational authorities, civil society, the private sector and others.
 
 
 
 
 
The “Global Trade Matters Dialogue on Climate Neutrality” acts as platform for sharing the challenges, opportunities, experiences and new ideas on how to transform into a carbon free global society, while exploring implementation policies, strategies and initiatives undertaken by different countries respectively to achieve the global aspiration for Vision 2050.
The one day event aims at raising awareness within the business community, participating schools and universities on the importance of a post-carbon economy and how they as community influencers, can play a vital role in achieving climate neutrality.
The “Global Trade Matters Dialogue on Climate Neutrality” will explore the role of International Cooperation (Governments, Agencies, Organizations) in providing sustainable support through financial flows, capacity building, and technology transfer to developing countries working towards carbon neutrality.
The event will also highlight the importance of the private sector’s commitment to invest in technologies and practices that reduce a company’s footprint in the journey towards carbon neutrality.
